The only reference to the allegations in teacher Janai Mercedes Smothers’ Nashville personnel file was an email from her to district officials saying she had resigned due to “unforeseen circumstances.”
Had Smothers been fired or had a disciplinary note in her file, it may have stopped her from landing a job earlier this year teaching high school students in Fresno, Calif.
