One approval may not be enough for proposed day care center in Amherst

The Amherst Town Board and Planning Board are in a standoff over a day care center proposed for a heavily trafficked corner of the town, and it’s not clear what the Planning Board will do when it meets at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Planning Board on Oct. 19 approved EduKids’ plan to build a $2.5 million center at 6286 Main St., at Stonham Way. Residents of the nearby Greythorne gated community objected, citing increased traffic and a lack of notice about the project. In response, the Town Board twice this month took the unusual step of asking the Planning Board to reconsider its approval.
