There’s a lot to like about Francesca Easdon. Her five-year-old son Kyler is what she calls an “extremely picky” eater, but instead of just packing the same lunch for him everyday she’s making an effort to include healthier options and encouraging notes for him. She even discussed her efforts with his school, Rocking Horse Day Care in Kingwood, Texas. That’s solid parenting.

But the most admirable thing about Easdon is the restraint she demonstrated when a caretaker at Kyler’s daycare wrote an almost unspeakably cruel reply to her on one of the encouraging notes she’d left in his lunchbox.

“No! Put him on a diet + GO AWAY!”

Instead of bursting into the school and raising bloody murder, as any parent would doubtlessly be tempted to do, Easdon calmly arranged a meeting with the school.

“First thing this morning I was at the school waiting on the director with my mother in law for a meeting,” she wrote in a Facebook post. “I was assured that it was being investigated and handled, yet almost no remorse was shown.”

“The teacher that wrote this note confessed while I was at work and was fired,” she continued. That’s a good outcome, but it’s also the bare minimum. Easdon wrote that the school showed “Zero remorse for their actions. I am disgusted that I put my trust in these people to care for my child and this is what I get in return.”

“I tried to handle it [in] a way that showed Kyler that you don’t have to stoop to that level,” she wrote in a follow-up comment. And honestly, in a situation that could have been made much worse by a justifiable reaction to the disgusting note, Easdon deserves kudos for handling the event with grace and sharing her experience in an effort to a good example for other parents and, most importantly, her son.
