INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — A new study shows toddlers are getting too much screen time.
The research is from National Institutes of Health, the University at Albany and New York University looked at the habits of nearly 4,000 children.
Researchers found 1-year-old children spent an average of 53 minutes in front of a screen. By the time a child is 3 that screen time increased to more than 150 minutes.
Experts recommend no screen time for children under 18 months and an hour a day or less from children between 2 and 5.
The study found 87 percent of children were exceeding those recommendations.
Children of first-time mothers or those in home-based childcare saw the highest amounts of screen time.
The results of the study will be published in JAMA Pediatrics.
