Every single morning I walk down to our nearby elementary school to drop off my 5-year-old at his kindergarten class. Every Tuesday and Thursday I drop my 4-year-old at his preschool. This past Thursday I was running a bit late. I have four children where my oldest is 5 and my youngest is 7 weeks, so it’s actually kind of a miracle when I even shower. Anyways, I was running late and I threw all of the kids in the car so we could drop off my son at preschool. We hurried up to the school and the workers were no longer waiting on the sidewalk to walk my kid in, so I had to get out and run him up to the front. I realized not only did I not have shoes on, but I didn’t have any shoes in the car. Yes, I walked my child into the school with no shoes on.
I wish I could say that I usually am put together and looking hot, but that isn’t the case at all. I am usually wearing my husband’s sweatshirts, my husband’s sweatpants and my hair tied up in a messy bun, emphasis on messy. I can be seen never wearing makeup and don’t stand too close because I most likely didn’t put on deodorant. And then I look around and realize that other moms actually have their crap together! One mom is always wearing makeup, another one has her hair curled, and I usually see at least one mother in a prom dress. Okay, maybe not a prom dress, but it feels like that sometimes! How the heck are these moms doing this? Are they even human?!
It is going to be awful when my children start noticing that their mother always looks like a homeless person. I hope they never get embarrassed by their mom who looks like she can’t afford clothes that fit. It’s not like I don’t try. I usually think, “maybe I should wear jeans today” but then my mind just goes “no, I just really don’t care that much” One morning I put on a shirt that was actually mine and not my husband’s. Then my baby threw up on it and so I figured that was a sign that I wasn’t supposed to look normal that morning.
Am I the only one who feels like this at school pick up?
