After Betsy DeVos’s Approval, Public Education Is At Risk

Betsy DeVos, Donald Trump’s education secretary pick, was approved by the senate earlier this week after a protracted battle over her confirmation. But now that she’s in office, Americans will be forced to split their attention from Donald Trump’s dangerous antics with what DeVos will do to the public education system.

An advocate for “school choice,” which is really just code word for advocacy of private, religious (Christian) institutions. But her plans specifically risk flooding the private market with taxpayer money, leaving private schools, unable to conduct free background checks, taking on only the best students they can find taking significant chunks of funding away from the public education system.
