Lincoln day care worker charged with sexual assault of a child while in custody on child porn charges

A former Lincoln day care employee already in federal custody suspected of child porn is now charged with four counts of sexual assault of a child.

The Lancaster County Attorney’s Office filed charges Tuesday against 26-year-old Titus Miller, who investigators said has worked at Playful Painters Childcare Center since 2016.

KETV NewsWatch 7 spoke with a mother who said Miller was often alone with her kids at the day care, and she wants answers.

“I did run into two of the staff members, and they were completely in shock,” said the woman, who will not be identified to protect her children. “They would have never guessed that that was going on at the day care.”

The FBI shut down Playful Painters Oct. 23, the day after agents arrested Miller on suspicion of production, possession and distribution of child pornography.

As for the new sexual assault of a child charges filed by the state Tuesday, documents from Lancaster County court charged Miller with two first-degree counts for two children under the age of 12 and two-third degree counts for two children under the age of 14.

Prosecutors alleged the assaults happened between July 31 and Sept. 16.

Investigators have not said where the alleged assaults took place, but the FBI believes Miller made child porn at the day care.

“I think justice should be served for the children and for the parents who trusted him to watch our children,” said the concerned mom.

She told KETV NewsWatch 7 the FBI allowed her into the daycare Friday to get her children’s belongings and said that some of their clothes and shoes were missing.

“To me is really concerning,” said the mom. “Are they like trophies? Are they something that he just took? I don’t know the answer to that question.”

At Playful Painters Wednesday, there was a note at the door from the Department of Health and Human Services to the day care owners, instructing them to keep the business closed until the FBI investigation is complete. It reads in partial:

“I understand that this agreement is based on the fact that a staff member has been arrested on suspicion of production, possession and distribution of child pornography involving children at Playful Painters.”

“I never thought that it would have been my kids,” said the mom.

Miller is due in federal court Nov. 13 on the child porn charges. As for the child sexual assault charges, the Lancaster County Attorney has not returned KETV NewsWatch 7’s calls on a court date.
