Former day care/preschool worker to serve two years for abuse

Etowah County Circuit Judge David Kimberley sentenced a former day care/preschool worker to serve two years in prison after security cameras captured her abuse of children in her care. Karen Lynn Rowland, 43, was arrested in February 2014 and charged with two counts of aggravated child abuse, a Class B felony. She pleaded guilty to two counts of child abuse, a Class C felony.

The charges against Rowland stemmed from incidents at Kids Kingdom Day Care and Preschool, which is located at First United Methodist Church of Hokes Bluff, Natalie Barton, public information officer for the sheriff’s department, said in a statement at the time of Rowland’s arrest.
