Day-care center, buildings evacuated after gas line break at Montgomery College

More than 1,000 staff and students at several buildings, including a day-care center, were evacuated Monday after a natural gas line broke at Montgomery College’s campus in Germantown, Md. No one was injured.

The incident took place about 10 a.m. at a science building on the campus, where some construction was being done. Pete Piringer, a spokesman for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, said a 4-inch line was struck by a backhoe doing some construction in the area.
