If you thought childcare in D.C. was a bit expensive, you aren’t the only one.
Washington, DC has one of the highest average costs of childcare in the country. It ranks number one for most expensive infant care, according to a report by Economic Policy Institute.
The average cost is nearly $19,000 for one child in one year in the District, which easily beats out surrounding counties including Arlington, Loudoun and Montgomery counties where average costs fall between $11,500 and $13,000.
In some cases it tops in-state tuition for college. Child care reaches four times the average cost of in-state tuition for a a four-year public college in the District.
