N.J. home-based day care providers must undergo background checks

TRENTON — Registered daycare providers who work from their homes will have to undergo criminal background checks under a bill Gov. Chris Christie signed into law Friday.

There are more than 2,000 state-registered child care providers who work out of their home which may serve as many 10,000 children, according to the bill’s supporters, who have called this requirement overdue.
