Despite millions of calls and messages to senators, with constituents voicing concerns about Betsy DeVos, President Trump’s choice for Secretary of Education has been confirmed.Now efforts to keep her out of office are turning into discussions on how to move forward. One major concern nationwide and in the St. Joseph area is the idea that DeVos may harm public schools, because of her history of advocating for charter schools and voucher systems. Local educators and advocates explain how the Department of Education and DeVos, could have an impact locally.
Lori Prussman, vice president of the St. Joseph School Board, said her biggest concern with how the new administration could affect the St. Joseph School District involves Special Education and Title I funding.
